Photos just never do some things justice. As is the case of the truly stunning expanse that is that Alberta sky. It's also the case of our stunning Christmas at the Simo farm just outside of Tilley, Alberta. Eleven nieces and nephews plus twelve adults including Katherine and me. What an uproariously fun time.

"Nihil Sine Laboro" Now you remember Granger, "Nihil Sine Laboro" "Nothing Without Work". This was the reminder that Mrs. Hooey would give young Ron in her Latin class. It stuck with him. Ron's a favorite customer who can at times be enticed to share one of his stories about prospecting in the Yukon. Prospectors. What a different breed. Realists and yet optimists. A very good friend to all of us at the shop. Kind of a poor photo but this guy was on the telephone pole across the road from the bookstore. A good omen as he showed up the same afternoon that Tanna and Terry from the Birdfest were having an inpromptu meeting. I think the 2014 Birdfest will be even better than last year's. These guys are big. The first year we moved here we'd seen a whole family out at the pipeline walk at the wildlife centre. Not too uncommon but always a treat. |
