Jerusalem Artichokes

Late September and Katherine's Jerusalem Artichokes are doing o.k. Well maybe just a little out of hand actually. Eleven feet to the blossoms at the tip. What is that in meters?  Almost four. Metric knocks everything down a notch. Eleven feet sounds better. They're in a new raised planter so we're hoping they won't be able to escape this and take off. Now if only the tubers are as impressive.

Knitting at Kingfisher

It looks like Phylis is teaching Nora to knit but in fact they're comparing styles.  Phylis learnt from her Mom who is English.  Nora learnt from a Croatian woman.  They sat knee to knee and Nora copied what she saw.  They're is more to this knitting than I imagined but these two make it look easy.

O.K..  How many pounds of huckleberries will fit in a peak cap?  About two and a half.  We headed out up the summit to walk ripple ridge and just about didn't make it.  Huckleberries.  We were stopping every twenty feet to pick a mitt full.  This is a well walked trail.  Gives you a bit of an idea as to what's out there.  What a year.

Creston Valley Fall Fair

The fall fair was one of the first events that I attended
after we moved here.  It still puts a smile on my face.  The fruits, vegetables, baking, canning, quilting, wine and beer making.  The livestock and  small animals.  I am just a sucker for the chickens and rabbits.  All the different breads are so amazing. What a ton of  work.  I guess all small towns thrive because of their volunteers but it just seems Creston more so.  The number of people that give so much of their time to so many different organizations is over the top amazing.  They're all getting a little burnt out so if you move here please think about giving some of you time to a favorite group.

Open every Saturday from 9 till 1.  You'll find everyone just off the main street by the chamber of commerce.  It's a grand time as Jimmy Rabbitte would say.  Omi's peanut brittle, Uta's pottery, Gunda's paintings and cards, Casandra's wonderful bread, the Cook's baking and vegetables, Della's baking, Kevin's tomatoes, Joy's produce.  The list is just endless.  I've left a lot of great vendor's out.  Gotta see the market for yourself.
