Our walk on Sunday netted these little gems. Katherine was finding them about five to my every one. That and she was able to spot the elk just before they turned and headed into the bush. For supper she used "Joe's Book of Mushroom Cookery" by Jack Czarnecki to make a couple of tasty omelets. Very earthy and rich. Quite choice and a little special as you just don't get them everyday.

I'd say this last fall/winter we've seen at least four orchards in the valley go under the axe. Four I know of. It's next to impossible to compete with the cherries coming out of Washington state. Well, that and it's a ton of work and a lot of the orchardists are getting older. Some are replanting to mixed soft fruits, some to grapes. It's an interesting time here. Please buy B.C. fruit. |
